In addition to the Catholic and Anglican churches, the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse looked at other religious institutions who have received claims involving child sexual abuse. The Royal Commission in particular looked at (amongst others) the following institutions:
Australian Christian Churches and affiliated Pentecostal Churches such as Salesians of Don Bosco; St John of God Brothers (The Hospitaller Order of St John of God); Missionaries of the Sacred Heart; Dominican Friars; Marist Fathers (Society of Mary); Sisters of Mercy Australia; Society of Jesus – Jesuits; De La Salle Brothers; Congregation of the Passion of Jesus Christ (Passionist Order); and Congregation of the Mission (Vincentian Fathers); Pallottines (Society of the Catholic Apostolate); and
Jewish institutions such as the Yeshiva Bondi and Yeshiva Melbourne.
The Royal Commission found that like the Catholic and Anglican Churches, child sexual abuse was highly prevalent throughout these varied institutions. Some of the perpetrators (amongst others) mentioned in the Royal Commission include the following:
Daniel Hayman – Yeshiva Bondi
Rabbi David Kramer – Yeshiva Melbourne
Father Anthony (“Tony”) Caruana - Missionaries of the Sacred Heart
Father Charles Barnett – Congregation of the Mission (Vincentian Fathers)
Father Brian Spillane - Congregation of the Mission (Vincentian Fathers)
Brother Paschal Bartlett - Franciscan Friars (Order of the Friars Minor)
If someone in a position of trust from any religious institution has inappropriately touched you or sexually assaulted you, you may be entitled to a range of benefits and compensation.
