Father Paul Raymond Evans

Paul Raymond Evans was born on 20 October 1951. He began his religious career as a Brother with the Roman Catholic Order, Salesians of Don Bosco. After working for some years at Boys' Town Engadine, in Sydney’s western surburbs, he moved to Melbourne (where the Salesian order has its Australian headquarters) and was ordained as a priest in 1983.

Father Evans worked as a Dormitory Master at Boys’Town, Engadine during the 1970s and 1980s.  During his time at Engadine, Father Evans was found to have sexually abused children at the school. In 2008, the Sydney District Court found Father Evans guilty of multiple offences dealing with sexual abuse against seven teenage boys. Some of the boys were as young as 13 years of age. Most of the abuse occurred in the dormitory or on camping trips. Furthermore, Father Evans was found guilty of supplying and intoxicating numerous boys with alcohol.  He was sentenced to 15 years in prison but would be eligible for parole in January 2018.

Father Evans has also had stints/associations with the following institutions and parishes:

• Salesian College Brooklyn Park, Adelaide;

• Don Bosco Youth Club, Melbourne;

• Salesian College "Rupertswood" in Sunbury, near Melbourne;

• St Patrick’s Parish - East Gosford (Catholic Diocese of Broken Bay); and

• Kincumber Parish - Central Coast of NSW (Catholic Diocese of Broken Bay).
