Brother Paschal Bartlett
Brother Paschal Bartlett (whose real name was Ernest Joseph Bartlett) was a member of the Franciscan Order (the Order of Friars Minor) who joined the Order in the 1920s and served for almost 50 years with the Order in parishes around Australia and New Zealand. In Australia, Brother Bartlett mainly served in Victoria, Tasmania, and New South Wales. During his time with the Franciscans, Brother Bartlett was often in charge of the altar boys throughout the different parishes he served at. Brother Bartlett died in April, 1994.
In 2002, the Order’s Provincial headquarters in Sydney, received allegations of Brother Bartlett sexually abusing an altar boy at Waverley's Mary Immaculate Church in Sydney. The church was linked with Waverley College where students were encouraged to serve as altar boys. Brother Bartlett served in the parish on and off between the 1940s to 1990s. It is believed that Brother Bartlett might have abused other altar boys during his service with the Franciscans.
