Brother Crispin Hopson
Brother “Crispin” Hopson (also known as Brother Kevin Hopson) was a former member of the Marist Brothers who taught/served at different Marist schools in NSW and the ACT. Brother Hopson was born on 6 February 1933 as Kevin Nicholas Hopson. On joining the Marist order in his late teens, he adopted the religious name Brother “Crispin”, called after Saint Crispin. Royal Commission records show that Brother Hopson taught/served at the following schools:
Marist Primary School - Lidcombe, NSW;
Marist Brothers College - Kogarah, NSW;
St Joseph’s College - Hunters Hill, NSW;
Marist College Canberra - Pearce, ACT;
Sacred Heart Primary School - Mosman, NSW;
Marist Primary School - Daceyville, NSW;
St Michael’s Catholic Primary School - Daceyville, NSW; and
Marist Brothers College - North Sydney, NSW (Superior, Bursar).
Brother Hopson served mainly as Superior, Principal and Bursar at the schools above. His longest serving appointment was between 1976 to 1988 at Sacred Heart Primary School in Mosman where he was Assistant Superior, Superior, Assistant Principal and Principal. In 1993, Brother Hopson retired from teaching and was appointed as Bursar and Community Support at Marcellin College Randwick in Sydney.
Royal Commission records again show that allegations have been made against Brother Hopson when he was Superior at Sacred Heart Mosman in relation to the harbouring and protection of Brother Gregory Sutton (a well known Marist Brother perpetrator) who was latter charged and sentenced over various charges involving the sexual abuse of students of Sacred Heart. Further allegations have also been made against Brother Hopson over his involvement in sexually abusing students himself at the School.
Moody Law is currently representing various clients who have made allegations of sexual abuse against Brother Hopson when he was Superior at Sacred Heart Primary School in Mosman, Sydney.
