Brother David “Dave” Standen
Brother David “Dave” Standen (born 4 April 1949 and whose real name is William Peter Standen) was a former member of the Christian Brothers who in 2016 pleaded guilty to indecently assaulting seven boys at St Patrick’s College, Goulburn in the Southern-Tablelands of NSW. Brother David pleaded guilty to seventeen charges of indecent assault on boys aged 12 to 14 and one count of act of indecency on a boy while he was a teacher and dormitory master at the school between 1978 and 1981. He had initially pleaded not guilty to some of the charges but changed his plea to guilty in the District Court in Sydney in 2016. Consequently, he was sentenced to nine years and two months in jail with a non-parole period of four years and seven months. He could be released on parole by September 28, 2020 the earliest, taking into account time already served. Research online indicates that Brother David was the only person who supervised Year Seven boarders at the School at night and that he had a small bedroom attached to the dormitory.
Brother David also taught/served at the following schools before retiring in 2010:
St Dominic’s College, Penrith (deputy principal for six years); and
St Mary’s Cathedral College (principal between 2000 to 2010).
