St Patrick’s College Goulburn
St Patrick’s College Goulburn was a day and boarding school in Goulburn, New South Wales. The college was founded in 1874 by the Goulburn Catholic Diocese and it was operated by the Christian Brothers from 1897 until its closure in 2000 when it amalgamated with Marian Girls’ College to form Trinity Catholic College Goulburn (co-educational).
Like many other schools operated by the Christian Brothers, the school has been involved in allegations of child sexual and physical abuse. These allegations are in relation to Brother David “Dave” Standen. Brother David pleaded guilty to seven charges of indecent assault against seven teenage boys when he was Year 7 dormitory master at St Patrick’s College in Goulburn, NSW, between 1978 and 1981. Brother David was sentenced to nine years two months in prison, but due to pleading guilty, his sentence was reduced and he was ordered to serve four years and seven months behind bars before becoming eligible to apply for parole.
Moody Law has represented clients in the past who have made allegations of sexual abuse against other members of the Christian Brothers at numerous schools and institutions.
