Brother Gregory Carter
Brother James Gregory Carter is a Marist Brother who was born on 4 July 1957. Brother Carter mainly worked at the following schools throughout his career:
Housemaster at St Augustine's Marist Brothers College – Cairns;
Headmaster of the Junior School at Marist College Canberra; and
Principal at St Francis’ Primary School – Ayr, Queensland.
While he was housemaster at St Augustine’s, there were allegations made against him concerning sexually abusing a boarder at the school. Consequently, charges were laid against him by Queensland Police to which he pleaded guilty to 15 counts of indecent treatment of a minor. Brother Carter was sentenced to 18 months jail, with eligibility for parole after six months. Brother Carter was allowed to stay within the Marist Brothers and it is reported that he was later placed in high level positions such as principal at St Francis’ Primary School in Ayr, Queensland.
