De La Salle College, Scarborough

De La Salle College in Scarborough, Queensland was founded in 1955 by Monsignor Bartholomew Frawley (1904-2002). He was a Queenslander who spent a few years as a teacher before he was ordained as a priest in 1930. After the Second World War, Monsignor Frawley was posted to Scarborough by the Archdiocese of Brisbane, on the Redcliffe Peninsula north of Brisbane, as priest for St Bernadette’s parish in 1946. During his time in the Parish, Monsignor Frawley went on to establish catholic schools such as Frawley College, Soubirous College, St Bernadette’s Primary School, and De La Salle College. In 1995, the School amalgamated with Frawley College, Soubirous College, St Bernadette's of Scarborough, Our Lady Help of Christians, and Our Lady of Lourdes to form Southern Cross College. Years 7 to 12 are based at the De La Salle campus of Southern Cross College.

The old De La Salle College has been involved in allegations and matters dealing with child sexual and physical abuse. This is in relation to two known perpetrators, Brother Wilfred de Cruz and Brother Ibar Keating. Both members of the De La Salle Brothers had been indecently assaulting boys at the School in the 1970s and 1980s. The victims they targeted were aged between 11 and 15. It is known in particularly that Brother Wilfred's offences had been reported to Monsignor Bartholomew Frawley, but who did nothing to stop it.
