Brother Kevin Callixtus Hogan
Brother Kevin “Callixtus” Hogan was born as Kevin Francis Hogan on 28 July 1924 and died 9 July 2020. He attended Marcellin College and was later admitted to the Marist Brothers in February 1944, taking the religious name of “Callixtus”. Later on in his religious career he changed his name back to his real name, Brother Kevin Hogan. Brother Callixtus Hogan served with the Marist Brothers for approximately 77 years with 30 appointments and ministries, 2 opportunities for renewal (France and Auckland (NZ)) within Australia and overseas. They include the following:
6 in Western Australia including 8 years at New Norcia;
8 in Victoria;
2 in New South Wales;
2 in Northern Territory;
3 in South Australia;
6 in Papua New Guinea; and
3 in Solomon Islands .
Brother Callixtus Hogan also taught at the following schools:
Drusilla Junior Seminary, teacher of French - Mount Macedo, Victoria (1950s);
St Francis de Sales College, principal - Leeton, NSW (1962-64);
Marist Brothers College (now known as Red Bend Catholic College), principal - Forbes, NSW (1965 - 1966); and
Marcellin College, Randwick.
Allegations of sexual abuse had been made against Brother Callixtus Hogan by two former students at Marist Brothers College (Red Bend Catholic College) when Brother Hogan was principal at the school. The abuse allegedly occurred in 1965-66 when the students were 12 and 14 years old, respectively. Another former victim of Brother Hogan who attended St Joseph's Parish Primary School in Leeton, stated that she was sexually abused by Brother Hogan who regularly attended her family home. She confided about the abuse to another girl years later who also stated that she experienced similar behaviour from Brother Hogan.
