Brother Don Newton

Brother Donald Brodie Newton was born on 19 April 1940 and died on 5 October 2014. He was a member of the Marist Brothers who made his perpetual vows in 1965 and went on to teach at various Marist Brothers schools for approximately 19 years in Qld, NSW and the ACT. They include the following primary schools:

• Casino;

• Hunters Hill (Villa Maria School);

• Lidcombe;

• Dundas;

• Innisfail (QLD); and

• Enoggera (QLD).

And he served at the following secondary schools:

• Maitland;

• Kogarah;

• Petrie (QLD);

• Pagewood; and

• Marist College Canberra (Pearce).

Allegations of sexual abuse have been made against Brother Don Newton by a former student of Marist Brothers Maitland. He alleges that he was sexually abused by Brother Don Newton during a camping trip in the late 1970s. Unfortunately, Brother Don Newton died in 2014 before the matter could be resolved.
