Brother Colgan Taylor
Brother Colgan Taylor was born in Sydney on 18 March 1922 as Lancelot Kenneth Taylor. He was a member of the Marist Brothers who served/taught at various schools and institutions. They include:
Marcellin College Randwick (teacher);
Marist Brothers Mosman (teacher);
Marist Brothers Boys’ School Innisfail (Brother Superior); and
Marist Brothers Mittagong (Assistant Master of Novices).
Overseas, Brother Taylor also worked for a year in Fribourg, Switzerland and served two years at the Marists' Pacific Novitiate in Lomeri, Fiji. In Australia, he spent many years working around the country as a “spiritual director" at various Catholic retreat houses.
In 2002, Brother Taylor was charged by Queensland Police with four incidents of indecent dealing, which he had committed on two young girls in central Queensland between 1979 and 1983. Brother Taylor pleaded guilty to these charges and was sentenced in the Queensland District Court to 18 months jail, composed of four months behind bars and the remainder of the sentence to be completed doing community work. Brother Taylor was 80 years old at the time.
It is alleged also that Brother Taylor sexually and physically abused other children in New South Wales. Sources online indicate that he spent quite a considerable amount of time in northern NSW near Byron Bay where the Marist Brothers had a property at Wategos Beach.
Moody Law has in the past represented and is still representing clients who were sexually and physically abused by members of the Marist Brothers at various schools and institutions around Australia.
