Patrician Brothers’ College Fairfield
Patrician Brothers' College in Fairfield, Sydney is an independent Roman Catholic secondary school for boys. The school was established in 1953. It originally catered for Years 5 to 12 until the primary school section closed in 2006. The school has currently an enrolment of approximately 1,100 students.
Like many other schools around Australia, Patrician Brothers College has been involved in its share of sexual abuse claims. Most of the allegations revolve around one perpetrator - Brother Richard Doheny. Brother Richard was born on 3 September 1935 in Ireland. He became a Patrician Brother in Ireland and arrived in Australia in 1956, aged 21. He taught at other Patrician Brothers’ schools in western Sydney such as Patrician Brothers College Blacktown and Granville until 2009. Records indicate that Brother Richard was at Fairfield in the 1970s. He was feared and very much disliked by the students at Fairfield. Numerous allegations have been made against Brother Richard which include fondling, inappropriate touching, and ogling at naked boys. It is also known that Brother Richard used to humiliate students at camps and at school by making them parade and walk around naked in fields and at the schools showers. Furthermore, Brother Richard was well known for his physical punishment, always eager to use the strap.
