Minali Receiving and Assessment Centre
Minali Receiving and Assessment Centre was established in 1975 by the NSW Department of Youth and Community Services. It was situated in the Sydney suburb of Lindcombe and was designed and functioned as a complex of cottage homes for the care of boys and girls from disadvantage backgrounds. In 1998, the Department closed Minali due to numerous issues with the institution over the years and it was one of the last residential care institutions (together with Ormond) operated by the NSW state government.
It is reported online that many children who were placed at Minali, were victims of sexual and physical abuse. Subsequently, as some court records indicate, many of these children absconded from Minali in order to get away from was happening to them. For example, in 1996 a group of six children who were residents of Minali ran away from the institution with some individuals claiming later on in court in 1999 that had been exposed to physical ill-treatment and sexual abuse when they were residents there.
Moody Law has in the past and is still representing clients around Australia who have made allegations of sexual and physical abuse when they were placed in a government owned and operated institution.
We invite former victims to tell us confidentially what information they may have, and we will explain what options are available to help with these cases.
