Kendall Grange, Morrisset Park (NSW)

Kendall Grange in Morrisset Park, New South Wales was a facility established by the St John of God Brothers in 1948 as a residential school for boys with intellectual disabilities. In 1980 the school changed to a residential school for boys with behavioural disorders, and in 1994 it became a residential school for primary school aged boys and girls with behavioural disorders. Kendall Grange operated until 2000. In 2001 the school closed as requested by the Department of Community Services, NSW, and it became a community-based early intervention service under the name of St John of God Family Services.

The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual abuse has identified 41 claims of child sexual abuse occurring at Kendall Grange between 1950 and 1997. This figure accounted for 55 per cent of all claims against the St John of God Brothers in Australia. Furthermore, of the 41 claimants who alleged child sexual abuse at Kendall Grange, almost half (20 claimants) also alleged that they were physically abused. Furthermore, the Royal Commission was indicate that 40.4 per cent of St John of God Brothers, who operated Kendall Grange, were alleged perpetrators. Thirty alleged perpetrators of child sexual abuse at Kendall Grange have been identified, while another three have only been partially identified. One of the worst perpetrators was Brother Bernard McGrath who in 2018 was sentenced to 33 years in jail for 64 offences against 12 boys.
