Father Vincent Kiss
Father Vincent Kieran Kiss was a former parish priest of the Diocese of Wagga Wagga in western New South Wales. Originally from Sydney, Father Kiss first became a fundraiser for a missionary group before entering the seminary in the Blue Mountains, NSW to study for the priesthood. He was ordained as a priest in 1964. After his ordination, Father Kiss served as a curate (i.e. assistant parish priest) in North Albury (Sacred Heart Parish) in 1965, followed by a position as parish priest, and then worked as a missionary in Vanuatu. He returned to the Diocese of Wagga Wagga after two years in Vanuatu and took up the position of Catholic Director of Youth.
In 2002, Father Kiss (aged 70 at the time) pleaded guilty in the Downing District Court, Sydney to three charges of buggery and ten of indecent assault in relation to sexual assaults that occurred between 1966 to 1971 against four teenage boys. The assaults occurred in various places such as youth camps and meetings, steam rooms, during altar boy practice, a boy’s family home and on holidays in Sydney and Surfers Paradise. Father Kiss was consequently sentenced to ten and a half years in jail with parole set after seven years. It is alleged that Father Kiss sexually abused other boys during his time in the Diocese of Wagga Wagga.
