Father Murray Mofatt
In August 2010, Father Murray Alexander Moffat of Brisbane, was sentenced to 18 months jail, with the first three months to be spent behind bars and the remainder suspended for three years. He pleaded guilty to indecent treatment of a 12-year-old girl between 1977 and 1981. The sexual abuse occurred when Father Moffat was an assistant priest at Sacred Heart Church at Booval, Ipswich.
Father Murray Moffat had worked for 37 years within the Archdiocese of Brisbane, which covers the south-eastern corner of the state of Queensland. He served/worked at various parishes including the following:
St Peter's Parish, Rochedale, Brisbane – 1981 to 1992;
St Catherine's Parish, Wishart (in Brisbane's south-east) – 1992 to 2004; and
Mary MacKillop Parish, Birkdale – 2005 until he was charged by police in mid-2009.
