Father James Jennings
Father James Patrick Jennings was a former member of the Vincentian Order (formally known as the Congregation of the Mission) who a priest and teacher at St Vincent’s College in Bendigo, Victoria. Father Jennings was also in charge of other duties from time to time at the school, including being in charge of dormitories. Father Jennings left the priesthood in 1976 and worked for many years as a financial controller at a school in Sydney. However, it was not until 2009 and 2010, that Father Jennings offences came to the notice of the police.
In 2014, Father Jennings was found guilty by a jury of five in the Victorian County Court on charges of indecent assault on a male person under the age of 16. The charges were in relation to indecently assaulting two former students/boarders of St Vincent’s College between 1964 to 1967. He was sentenced to three years in prison, of which two years and six months were suspended.
