Father Graham Redfern

Information online indicates that Father Graham Redfern was born in 1945 and was ordained as a Priest in the early 1970s. Records further indicate that he served at the following parishes within the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne:

  • St Mary’s Parish - Dandenong and Melton (1970s);

  • Oakleigh, Dandenong North and Altona North (1980s);

  • Seymour (1989 to late 1995); and

  • St Thomas More Parish - Mount Eliza (1996 to early 2001).

Father Redfern was also involved in the Australian Defence Force, serving as a part-time military chaplain and assisted in recruiting new army chaplains in Victoria.

It is reported that Father Graham Redfern was allowed to continue serving as a priest by Archbishop George Pell within the Archdiocese after internal investigations had found that Father Redfern had sexually abused a teenager in 1978 while the youth was in a vulnerable state, grieving over the death of his mother. Even though the victim at the time had just turned 18, it was found by the Archdiocese’s complaints officer - Mr Peter O’Callaghan QC - that Father Redfern had confessed to impropiety and abuse (on his part) of power, position and status, which he deeply regretted.

Moody Law has in the past represented and is still representing clients who were sexually abused by clergy members serving for the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne.
