Father Daniel Lyne
Father Daniel Lyne was a priest within the order known as the Congregation of the Passion, more commonly known as the Passionist. Father Lyne held a number of influential positions within the order for approximately 30 years before he left the order in the 1990s. These positions include the following:
Between 1964 to 1968 (approximately), Father Lyne was a spiritual director of students at a "juniorate" in St Ives, Sydney; and
In approximately 1968 or 1969, he was rector of Holy Cross College (a Passionist theological college) at Templestowe, Melbourne.
Research online shows that the Passionist Order has received numerous inquiries in the past, in particular from former juniorate students, on the whereabouts of Father Lyne, with the Passionist hierarchy being evasive in providing any information on him. For example, the organisation Broken Rites has shown that in 1994 a former student at the St Ives juniorate inquired about the whereabouts of Father Lyne and was told that he was laicised (i.e. his religious status withdrawn) and that Order was helping him ease back into civilian life. Broken Rites also indicates that Father Lyne died in 2002 and that he was facing possible criminal prosecution over child sexual abuse charges. http://brokenrites.org.au/drupal/node/156
