Father Dermot Casey
Father Dermot Casey, an ordained priest of the Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane was charged in 2013 and 2014 with charges dealing with sexual assault of minors. However, during the criminal prosecutions, Father Casey died on 21 August 2014. Father Casey retired from parish work in 1996.
Father Dermot Casey served in the following parishes within the Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane:
Cannon Hill (St Oliver Plunkett's) in the late 1960s;
Beenleigh (St Patrick's) in the 1970s;
Salisbury (St Pius X) in the 1980s; and
Lavarack Barracks in Townsville.
He further spent time around 1970 in Vietnam as a military chaplain for Australian soldiers.
It is reported that many of his offences of child sexual abuse occurred on his boat, a yacht that he kept on the Queensland coast.
