Brother Michael Folli
Michael Anthony Folli (born 4 January 1945) is a former member of the Marist Brothers who taught at Benedict Senior College (now part of Trinity Catholic College) in the inner western Sydney suburb of Auburn. On 21 December 2000, Brother Folli was sentenced to imprisonment for a total of nine years in relation to 13 counts of sexual offences committed against two former students of Benedict College. The two students were brothers. Brother Folli befriended the boys’ family where he became a frequent visitor at their family home, taking advantage of the parent’s hospitality and allegedly abusing the two boys inside the family home. Court records indicate that the alleged abuse occurred between 1980 to 1983. Both boys were aged 12 and 15 at the time.
In 2001, Brother Folli’s conviction and sentence was set aside as he was successful in appealing the conviction on an issue relating to evidence. A new trial was ordered by the NSW District Court and in 2002, Brother Folli pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual intercourse without consent with a person under 16 and five counts of indecent assault on a male. He was sentenced to four and a half years' jail.
Moody Law has in the past and is still representing clients who have made allegations of sexual and physical abuse against members of the Marist Brothers at various schools and institutions around Australia.
