Brother Daniel Slattery
Daniel Slattery (known as Brother Daniel) was a former member of the Catholic order known as the Hospitaller Order of the Brothers of St John of God (more commonly referred to the St John of God Brothers) who served many years at the Kendall Grange Special School for Boys in Morriset, NSW. Kendall Grange was established by the St John of God Brothers in 1948 as a residential school for boys with intellectual disabilities. In 1980, the School became a residential school for boys with behavioural disorders, and then in 1994 the School changed again to become a residential school for primary school for aged boys and girls with behavioural disroders. Kendall Grange operated until 2000.
It is reported that Daniel Slattery was convicted at the Downing Centre District Court in Sydney, NSW of multiple child sexual abuse offences dating back to the early 1980s. This included the aggravated sexual assault and acts of indecency against three boys of the School aged between nine and 13 years of age. It is further reported that Mr. Slattery would give his victims communal wine and sleeping bills before raping and sexually abusing them. Subsequently, Mr. Slattery was sentenced to a total of 40 years and six months in prison, with a cumulative term of 11 years.
