Brother Cormac Brophy (Francis David Brophy)
Francis David Brophy was a former member of the De La Salle Brothers who went by the religious name of Brother Cormac Brophy. Courts records indicate that Brother Cormac taught/served at the following schools:
De La Salle College - Malvern, Victoria (in the 1960s); and
BoysTown - Beaudesert, Queensland (1977 to 1983).
It is alleged that Brother Cormac had been sexually abusing students since 1962 when he was teaching at De La Salle College Malvern in Melbourne, Victoria. Furthermore, Queensland District Court records indicate that Brother Cormac had been sexually and physically abusing students aged between 12 to 16 years of age at BoysTown between 1977 to 1983. Subsequently, in 2017 Brother Cormac (aged 87 at the time) was found guilty in a jury trial in the District Court on guilty five offences in relation to the sexual abuse of minors and sentenced on more than 30 counts in total. Brother Cormac was sentenced to a head term of eight years in prison with a parole eligibility date of two years.
