Brother Anselm Hallam
Brother Anselm Hallam was born Tom Hallam and was a former member of the De La Salle Brothers. Records indicate that Brother Anselm taught at the following schools during his religious/teaching career:
St Joseph’s Boys Primary, Malvern, Vic;
De La Salle College - Malvern, Vic; and
De La Salle College - Revesby, NSW.
A Victorian parliamentary record indicates that Brother Anselm was allegedly sexually and physically abusing (quite brutally) boys at St Joseph’s between 1962 to 1965. The sexual abuse consisted of fondling boy’s penises and testicles in the classroom and toilets. After repeated complaints to senior De La Salle Brothers by a lay teacher at the School about Brother Anselm’s physical abuse, he was removed from the School and apparently transferred to De La Salle College in Malvern. It is reported also that Brother Anselm continued abusing students at the De La Salle college with numerous complaints made against him during his time there. Again, senior De La Salle Brothers removed Brother Anselm from the School and transferred him this time to De La Salle College in Revesby, NSW. In 2017, it is reported that further allegations of sexual and physical abuse of Grade 6 and 7 students at the Revesby college were made against Brother Anselm dating back to the 1970s and 1980s. Brother Anselm died in the early 1990s before any prior allegations made against him could be pursued in the courts.
Moody Law has in the past and is still representing clients who have made allegations of sexual and physical abuse against members of the De La Salle Brothers at various schools and institutions around Australia.
