Anglican Diocese of Adelaide
The Anglican Diocese of Adelaide is based in Adelaide, South Australia. It is part of the Province of South Australia of the Anglican Church of Australia and a part of the Anglican Communion. The Diocese was established in 1847 and forms part of the Province of South Australia together with the Diocese of Willochra and the Diocese of The Murray.
In its analysis of the Anglican Church in Australia, the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse found that the Diocese of Adelaide received the second highest number of complaints (after the Diocese of Brisbane) being a total of 155 complaints (14% of all complaints). The Diocese of Adelaide included a significant number of complaints in their survey relating to the Church of England Boys’ Society (CEBS). In total, the Diocese received 70 complaints relating to CEBS, representing 45 per cent of complaints received by the Diocese of Adelaide.
One of the worst perpetrators within the Diocese of Adelaide was Robert Brandenburg who was heavily involved with the Church of England Boys’ Society (CEBS) as a lay person for numerous years. In May 1999, Mr Brandenburg was charged with a large number of child sexual abuse offences but committed suicide in June 1999 before the charges were finally dealt with.
Moody Law has represented victims of child sexual abuse by Robert Brandenburg and is currently representing clients who were victims at other institutions, schools and dioceses run by the Anglican Church of Australia.
We invite former victims, students, ex-teachers and parents to tell us confidentially what information they may have, and we will explain what options are available to help with these cases.
