Allan Thomas Walters
Allan Thomas Walters was a lay schoolteacher who taught at schools in Queensland and New South Wales. The schools included St John’s College (now known as Holy Spirit Catholic College) in Lakemba, Sydney and Villanova College in Coorparoo, Brisbane. He has been sentenced in both states over child sexual abuse offences. In 1998, Allan Walters pleaded guilty to having intercourse with a 14-year-old boy in 1985 at St John’s College. He was sentenced to three years in jail. At the time, the local newspaper “Bankstown Express”, reported that St John’s College was aware of Allan Walter’s action as the offence was reported to school authorities but that they refused to notify the police. The victim while still a student at St John’s developed behavioural problems. He unfortunately received no help or counselling from the school but was transferred to another school. In Queensland, Allan Walters was sentenced to five years, suspended after thirteen months, over charges of indecent dealings with a 13-year-old boy. In 1983, he received a good-behaviour bond, but managed to obtain a position at St John’s College in 1984.
